HUNTINGTON BEACH UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT WRAP-UP
- Share via
WHAT HAPPENED:
Dave Larsen, the district’s general counsel, recommended that the
board seek legal written advice from the Fair Political Practices
Commission concerning the potential conflict-of-interest issues raised by
trustee Sallie Dashiell’s participation in Individualized Educational
Plan meetings on behalf of parents.
The letter also requests advice on Dashiell’s ability to participate
in budgetary decisions affecting the West Orange County Consortium for
Special Education, which Huntington Beach Union High School District is
apart of.
WHAT IT MEANS:
In December, Fountain Valley School District wrote a letter to the
Huntington Beach district asking that Dashiell cease her role in
attending Individual Education Plan meetings for a Fountain Valley
student. The Fountain Valley district is a member of the West Orange
County Consortium for Special Education, and the Huntington Beach Union
High School District is the responsible educational agency of that
consortium.
The district is seeking further legal advice on any possible
conflict-of-interest issues that lie in Dashiell’s involvement with
special education.
