Rowing: NAC squad fares well in spring regatta opener

LONG BEACH - The Newport Aquatic Center opened the spring regatta
season with numerous wins at the Long Beach Marine Stadium on Feb. 24.
The men’s varsity eight (Nolan Rousset, Greg Everett, Graham
Brand-Zawadski, Joe Weiland, Peter Sims, John Zeiser, Matt Elder, Dylan
Wooters and coxswain Jackie Brown) pulled out a first-place finish by one
inch.
The men’s varsity four Matt Zeiser, Rousset, Scott Kircher, Everett
and Brown) also placed first for NAC.
The women’s varsity four squad of Ariel Jacobs, Anne Kircher, Hilary
Ellis and Karissa Rode took first place, while the varsity doubles team
of Jacobs and Kate Mead also the top spot.
Also winning for the NAC were the men’s novice coxed quad (Derek
Bothereau, Brian Booth, Drew Chaffee and Grant Ginder) and the women’s
novice quad (Emily McKay, Shannon Packer, Sara Walles and Jean Geddes).
The NAC’s next regatta will be on March 24 in San Diego.
Generous donations and fundraising helped the NAC acquire four new
bots and a new trailer, which were all used for the Long Beach regatta.
