Kids talk back

The Daily Pilot asked sixth-graders at Eastbluff Elementary School in

Newport Beach: What will be the coolest styles for the spring?

“Pastel colors for plain shirts will definitely be in. You can wear

them under white sweaters and with denim skirts. Also, you can wear

slip-on shoes or open-toe shoes in pink and blue. Oh yeah, and simple

necklaces and simple, delicate watches.”

Taylor Harkins, 12

Newport Beach

“Boys will wear Volcom and Hurley T-shirts and Rusty shorts with

Etnies or Adidas shoes. And the best color for all will be black.”

Jonathan Marsh, 11

Newport Beach

“I take modeling classes and I know that for the spring, jeans that

are not light but not dark either will be in style, with frayed bottoms.

And tank tops with tropical prints and open, button-down shirts will be

good. For boys, it will be Hurley shirts and Volcom shorts. Shoes for

girls will be open in the back, and sparkly makeup will be pretty cool

too. Oh, and Roxy spring bracelets too.”

Jessica Milner, 11

Newport Beach

“People will be wearing Hawaiian print board shorts by Volcom and

Hurley T-shirts. And there will be lots of Roxy stuff for the girls. And

girls will wear really, really short shorts, which I do like sometimes.”

Spencer Aguilar, 12

Newport Beach

“Peddle pushers in navy and tan with beads on the bottom will be in.

And khaki-color cargo pants both for girls and boys. And bright-colored

board shorts and halter tops, but not for school. Silver eye shadow and

lip gloss for shiny lips will be good too. And tank tops with spaghetti

straps. And short, messy hairstyles.”

Clara Lopes, 12

Newport Beach

“Lighter colors will be in, but not dark colors because it’s too hot

here. And tank tops and shorts and a lot of people really like those Roxy

sandals. And up-styles for hair because long hair gets in the way. And

diamond jewelry, both real and fake. Some people get really caught up

with fashion, but some people make fun of those who aren’t wearing what’s

in. So it’s good to keep up with fashion.”
