Wrestling: Estancia wrestlers shine
HUNTINGTON BEACH - Estancia High seniors Jeremy Valdes (137 pounds)
and Nathan Thaler (217) went 5-0 to pace a strong contingent of Eagles at
the Edison 12-way wrestling tournament Saturday.
Valdes had four pins to top all competitors in his weight class. He
now has 12 pins in his last 13 matches and takes a 24-2 record (at 137
pounds) into Saturday’s Pacific Coast League Finals at Corona del Mar.
Thaler, whose victories included a technical fall and a major
decision, was one of the two wrestlers to go unbeaten in his weight
class. He lost the tiebreaker and settled for the second-place medal.
Thaler is 30-4 heading into the postseason.
Estancia freshmen Luis Valdes (105) and Victor Carmona (127) both went
4-1 to finish second in their respective classes.
Estancia heavyweight Devon Bowling, a junior, was also second with a
4-1 record and four pins.
