The Newport Beach Arts Commission and the Newport-Mesa Unified School

District are offering visual arts workshops for teachers.

The programs are designed to show how students’ analytic and critical

thinking skills and their vocabulary can improve by examining the meaning

of works of fine art.

“All art has ‘aboutness,â€â€™ said Lila Crespin, who will present the

workshops. “And looking at imagery with specific questions in mind helps

students of all ages discern that aboutness.â€

The workshops will be held Wednesday and Feb. 28, and will last from 3

to 4:30 p.m. They will take place at the Sanborn Instructional Media

Center Library, 2985 Bear St., Costa Mesa.

Reservations are required. Information: (949) 673-2721.
