COSTA MESA - The Costa Mesa High girls basketball team sailed past

visiting Laguna Beach, 68-48, Thursday night, but the waters weren’t calm

down the stretch of this Pacific Coast League matchup.

The altercation started between a player from each team and two

Mustangs intervened in the final minute. The result will leave the

Mustangs (12-8, 3-1 in league) shorthanded for Tuesday’s 7 p.m. home game

with Corona del Mar.

Three Mesa players, two reserves and starter Leigh Marshall, were

ejected and, according to CIF Southern Section rules, will have to sit

out Tuesday.

Sophomore Rhondi Naff led Mesa with 15 points, while Marshall chipped

in 11. Nancy Hatsushi had five points and dished out six assists.
