Football recruiting: Rankin to Darmouth
Barry Faulkner
NEWPORT BEACH - Newport Harbor High senior Andy Rankin has verbally
committed to attend Dartmouth College, where he will play football.
Rankin, who visited the Hanover, N.H. campus last weekend, committed
Tuesday night during a home visit from Joe Perry, the program’s offensive
coordinator.
Rankin, a 6-foot-3, 210-pounder, was All-Newport-Mesa District and
second-team All-Sea View League last fall, when he amassed 65 tackles to
help the Sailors (11-3) reach the CIF Southern Section Division VI
championship game.
Rankin, who chose Dartmouth over Brown and Columbia, played a reserve
role for the 1999 CIF Division VI champions.
“I really felt comfortable with the coaches and they thought I had a
chance to play early there. And, I’m playing a position I really like.”
Rankin, who plans to major in either history or political science,
will join former Corona del Mar High outside linebacker Seth Richardson
in Hanover. Richardson was a sophomore last year, when the Big Green
finished 2-8, 1-6 in the Ivy League.
