BRIEFLY IN THE NEWS
Flames reaching 20 feet high erupted at 4:05 a.m. Saturday in the 2000
block of Barranca in Corona del Mar, causing $70,000 in damages to a
condo garage, authorities said.
It took 21 minutes for firefighters to calm the fire, which was
shooting through the detached garage doorway and almost hit the condo,
authorities said. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
While no one was injured, a police officer did have to help evacuate a
woman and girl who were inside the home. A man and two boys had already
gotten out of the home.
Neighbors who first noticed the fire and smoke alerted the sleeping
residents. Then the neighbors and the residents called the fire
department.
