Hundreds of people are expected at Peninsula Park on Sunday night for
a candlelight vigil honoring their children.
The event is part of a daylong, worldwide event held by The
Compassionate Friends, a support group for families grieving the death of
a child.
“Our hope is that through this combined act, people will realize that
they are not alone and that their child, grandchild or sibling is
remembered during the difficult holiday season,” said Pat Loder, the
group’s interim executive director.
The event will begin in New Zealand at 7 p.m. their time. As those
first candles burn down, more will be lighted across the world.
The vigil is held each year on the second Sunday in December.
The local event starts at 7 p.m. at the park at the Balboa Pier.
The group also will conduct chat rooms on its Web site during the day
at https://www.compassionatefriends.org.
