Dolphins fall to Compton in title game, 32-13

Mike Sciacca

Looking to win just the third Superbowl title for a Huntington Beach

team in the last 20 years, the Huntington Beach Jr. Clinic Division

Dolphins had that bid ended by the Compton Titans, who posted a 32-13

victory Saturday in the division final played at Mission Viejo High.

Wade Houston scored on a pair of first-half runs and Michael Rivera

hit Donald Nabors with an extra-point pass for the Dolphins, who trailed

the Titans at the half, 20-13.

The loss was the first of the season for the American Football League

champions, who finished the year 10-1-1.

Along the way to the final, Huntington Beach defeated Newport Mesa

(25-7), La Mirada Blue (14-3), and South Orange County (19-12) in

postseason play.

The game marked the first appearance in a Superbowl by a Huntington

Beach team in five years.

Four Dolphins team members -- Houston, Rivera, Taylor Duran and Jordan

Zumwalt --- were selected by their peers to play for the AFL when it

takes on the NFL in the division’s All-Conference Game on Sunday.

In addition to Huntington Beach, players representing neighboring

cities Fountain Valley, Westminster and Garden Grove will participate in

the Jr. Clinic Division All-Conference Game, which kicks off at 9 a.m. at

Fred Kelly Stadium on the campus of El Modena High in Orange.
