Girls basketball: Mesa suffers frostbite
BELLFLOWER - The Costa Mesa High girls basketball team, after a
decent shooting performance in the first half, went ice cold in the
second half, resulting in a 56-40 loss to Los Alamitos in the
Mayfair-Bellflower Tournament Friday night.
The Mustangs missed 27 of 31 shots taken in the second half and
actually had more three pointers (eight) than two pointers (six).
“Our problems were inside the arc,” Mesa Coach Jim Weeks said. “In
addition to our cold shooting, we gave up 18 offensive rebounds in the
second, which won’t get it done.”
Nancy Hatsushi and Rhondi Naff led the Mustangs with 11 points each,
while Leigh Marshall added nine points on three treys.
Costa Mesa will wrap up play in the tournament at 9:30 a.m. at Mayfair
High.
