ROSS JOHNSON ON:

CAMPAIGN FINANCE

Johnson believes campaign finance reform is important and has

supported related measures in the past. But he cautions about the

difficulty of creating reform legislation that is constitutionally

acceptable. He supports Proposition 34, which would enact some funding

restrictions. “It’s fairly carefully crafted to take into account all of

the court decisions that have been handed down in this area.”

CRIME

He is a proud coauthor of the three-strikes bill, which requires

sentences for repeat offenders. “The fact is that crime in virtually

every category is dropping. These are people who by their repeat offenses

forfeit the right to be in a free society.”

SCHOOL VOUCHERS

He supports Proposition 38, which would issue $4,000 vouchers to

parents enrolling their children in private schools. “I think a little

dose of competition is healthy. I don’t think people are going to rush to

take their kids out of public schools.” In Orange County, he says, most

public schools are of high quality.
