DUI checkpoint set for Friday night
The traffic bureau of the Costa Mesa Police Department will conduct a
sobriety checkpoint Friday night to screen for motorists driving under
the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The checkpoint will stop drivers traveling westbound on 19th Street at
Meyer Place from 9 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. on Saturday.
Authorities said the purpose of the checkpoint is to educate the
public about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol. The
police department conducts the checkpoints as an ongoing effort to reduce
the number of impaired drivers on the street.
The checkpoint is part of the DUI program funded by a grant from the
California Office of Traffic Safety through the Business, Transportation
and Housing Agency.
