Joanne Lew has been on Fountain Valley School District’s board of

trustees for four years, now serving as its president. She attended Cal

State Dominguez Hills for two years.

The most important issue facing the district, Lew said, is to

successfully implement the state curriculum and performance standards, as

well as improve student achievement by providing the necessary resources

to ensure the success of every student.

JOANNE LEW ON:

* THE DISTRICT’S BIGGEST CHALLENGES:

“Our biggest challenge will be maintaining our high academic

achievement and standards, providing educational opportunities to meet

the needs of all our students, efficiently managing our assets so we can

continue to modernize our facilities and keeping our schools safe.”

* PROPOSITION 38:

Lew is against the proposition for several reasons.

“First and foremost, it would take money away from our public schools.

Additionally, the voucher schools would be unregulated, unaccountable to

taxpayers and exempt from California’s new curriculum and performance

standards.”
