SATURDAY’S GAME

Ocean View vs. Garden Grove ... OV by 7

(at Garden Grove High, 7 p.m.)

And here’s why ...

* Coming off the emotional high of beating perennial power Los

Alamitos, Edison High (6-1, 1-0) hopes to keep things rolling tonight

against Marina (5-2, 0-2). The Vikings come into this one a bit banged

up. Starting quarterback Beau Brown suffered a shoulder injury in last

week’s loss to Esperanza. The Chargers have the momentum and their

balanced offensive attack wins out here.

Last year’s score: Marina 28, Edison 20 ...

* Huntington Beach High (2-5, 0-2) has struggled in Sunset League

play, and the Oilers will find it no easier Friday against the talented

Esperanza Aztecs (6-1, 2-0). Ball control is key for the Oilers,

specifically their ability to stop the Aztecs’ sensational running back,

Temitope Sonuyi. No team has stopped Sonuyi yet, and the Oilers don’t

figure to fare much better.

Last year’s score: Esperanza 14, Huntington Beach 0 ...

* Depending on which Fountain Valley team shows up, Friday’s meeting

with Los Alamitos (5-2, 1-1) has the potential of living up to some the

past barnburners in series history. The Barons (4-3, 1-1) have been up

and down this season and must produce an outstanding defensive effort if

they hope to win. Meanwhile, the Griffins are motivated. After last

week’s stinging loss to Edison, they are eager to take out their

frustrations on somebody. Plus, there is the matter of avenging last

season’s loss to the Barons.

Last year’s score: Fountain Valley 34, Los Alamitos 27 ...

* Ocean View High (4-3, 0-2) has dropped two straight and will need a

return to early season form if the Seahawks hope to defeat red-hot Garden

Grove (3-3-1). This one could be a high-scoring affair. On paper, Ocean

View figures to win. But it’s what happens on the field that counts.

Last year’s score: Ocean View 46, Garden Grove 20 ...
