In a battle between the top two teams in the league, Orange Coast

United Rush girls’ Under-12 soccer club maintained its grip on first

place by blanking the West Coast Impact, 2-0, Saturday in Mission Viejo.

Cindy Mendoza scored a header early in the first half, and Brittany

Koster later put the ball in the net off an outstanding assist by Robin

Ibbetson.

The battle for first place turned into a defensive battle, in which

Rush was led by Amanda Shaw, Courtney Anderson, Tori Rocke, Elyse

VanLeer, Jennifer Powell, Amy Staudinger, Samantha Castillo, Jaque

Anderson, Sasha Key, Chelsea Wisdom and Brianna Baker.
