THE RACE FOR FOUNTAIN VALLEY SCHOOL BOARD
Angelique Flores
Present Trustee Julie Larson (formerly known as Julie Hoxsie) has
served eight years on the Fountain Valley School District board.
The most important issue facing the Fountain Valley School District,
she said, is maintaining high standards and keeping a quality curriculum.
“Our benchmarks are high, and our standards are specific,” Larson
said. “It will be a challenge to both staff and students to meet these
standards.”
Larson’s three daughters are all former students of the district.
She is enrolled at Orange Coast College and expects to receive her
associate’s degree in social sciences in May.

* THE DISTRICT’S BIGGEST CHALLENGES:
“The greatest challenge to the district is to create a balance between
high standards and quality programs and adequate compensation for a
superior staff. Our salaries have yet to meet the median in the county.”
* PROPOSITION 38:
“Proposition 38, the voucher initiative, although helpful to those who
choose to put their children in private school, would eventually
undermine public education if passed. Funds would be diverted from our
existing schools, making it difficult to maintain current sites and
eventually leading to the cutting of programs. It would be in the best
interests of all children to continue to work toward quality education
and high standards for all children.”
