THE RACE FOR HUNTINGTON BEACH CITY SCHOOL BOARD
Angelique Flores
HUNTINGTON BEACH -- Brian E. Rechsteiner has been a member of the
Huntington Beach City School District Board of Trustees for eight years.
“The most important issue facing us is finding a way to modernize the
30-year and older schools in our district,” he said. “Schools, like homes
of this age, need new roofs, plumbing and electrical upgrades, which are
just some of the major needs of our schools.
Rechsteiner received his bachelor’s degree in business administration,
with a concentration in management from Cal State Long Beach.
He is also a commissioned officer in the Army from the California
Military Academy.

BRIAN RECHSTEINER ON:
* THE DISTRICT’S BIGGEST CHALLENGES:
The district’s biggest challenge, he said, is finding a solution to
obtaining the state matching funds so the district will be able to
modernize schools.
“As a board, we are considering a bond to provide our match to these
funds and to be able to finance other major projects at our schools. The
research done to date shows the public is very supportive of a bond to
help with our modernization needs.”
* PROPOSITION 38:
Rechsteiner is not in favor of the proposition for a number of
reasons.
“There is no accountability to taxpayers for the use of their money,
and it will cost the state approximately $3 billion to fund the children
currently in private schools. Private schools can choose who they want to
enroll. They do not have to accept children with disabilities or
discipline problems.”
