BRIEFS
Surf City Realtors will host a community forum for residents to
discuss flood insurance rates at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Murdy Community
Center, 7000 Norma Ave.
Homeowners are invited to discuss their concerns over flood control
and insurance in the city, as well as the rights of residents when
choosing an insurer. City Council members and other officials will attend
to address those concerns, Realtors said.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s National Flood Insurance
Program Community Rating System has classified the city a Class 7 on a
scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the highest. The city moved down from a
Class 8, which resulted in a 15% reduction in insurance premiums for some
residents living in flood zones. The meeting is expected to run for about
two hours.
