LETTER OF THE WEEK
It was a shock to read “Candidate signs are defaced in Huntington
Beach” (Oct. 12).
What is this world coming to when political candidates cannot hang
their graffiti on utility poles, county drainage canals, center medians,
city chain-link fences, public street corners, shopping center light
poles and numerous other locations that by city law they are forbidden to
do.
Those poor candidates that have had their 1st Amendment rights
challenged by the nasty old criminal code of this city, what are they to
do?
We are all aware that laws do not apply to politicians. Ethics are not
a requirement for public office. Why must we continue to persecute the
good people running for office by removing their campaign signs?
