The city of Fountain Valley will hold its Red Ribbon Fall Festival
from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Civic Center Complex, 10200 Slater
Ave.
Festivities will include police and fire exhibits, SWAT and canine
demonstrations, child identification fingerprinting, refreshments and
games.

Pennies for Prevention campaign culminates
The final day of the Pennies for Prevention campaign will be held from
11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Bank of America parking lot, at Five
Points Shopping Center at Main and Delaware streets.
Pennies were collected by local schoolchildren and the money raised
will go toward drug prevention programs.

Art Center hosts Family Arts Day
The Huntington Beach Art Center will host Family Arts Day at noon
Sunday at 538 Main St.
The free event will offer a variety of activities for the entire
family.

Make a Difference Day set for Saturday
Derek Anunciation, pastor of Praise Christian Center in Huntington
Beach and chief executive of Human Intervention Services Corp., has
organized a collaboration with the city of Huntington Beach, several
other churches, community groups, schools and businesses to sponsor Make
a Difference Day at noon Saturday
Volunteers and residents will come together to Make a Difference on
Amberleaf Circle, a culturally diverse street between Main Street and
Ellis Avenue. Their efforts will be focused on cleaning sidewalks,
picking up trash, painting, sweeping alleys and distributing food to
low-income families.
The intent is to instill community and pride in the young people who
live on Amberleaf and promote awareness of civic and social
responsibility.
Volunteers may simply show up.

Computer classes set for seniors
The Huntington Beach Adult Center will host basic computer classes
that will teach Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Word, for senior citizens
at 9 a.m. Saturdays beginning this week and 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and
Thursdays beginning Nov. 14 at Fountain Valley High School, 17816 Bushard
St.

Baskin-Robbins employees paid a visit from Japan
Employees at Baskin-Robbins at 5971 Warner Ave., Fountain Valley, were
paid a visit from about 30 franchisees from Japan on Tuesday. The
visitors were selected by the company based on the high degree of
excellence with which they operate their franchise.
The Fountain Valley store was selected by the company for consistently
demonstrating outstanding performance in all aspects of operation.
Fourth of July theme chosen; logo sought
The Huntington Beach Fourth of July Executive Board has chosen
“Huntington Beach Celebrates: Waves of Liberty” as its theme for the 97th
annual Huntington Beach Fourth of July Celebration.
For the second consecutive year, the executive board is soliciting
submissions from the community for the official event logo.
All entries should include the logo text in addition to the original
illustration. A cash award of $500 will be presented to the wining
artist. Submissions must be made in an 8 1/2-by-11-inch format before
Dec. 1. Direct entries can be mailed to Fourth of July Executive Board,
