In brief
Sierra’s Light Foundation has collected more than $5,700 through a
bowlathon event held this month at Kona Lanes in Costa Mesa.
The nonprofit foundation is being run by Cindy Soto and Pamela Wiener,
the mothers of 4-year-old Sierra Soto and 3-year-old Brandon Wiener, who
were killed when Steven Allen Abrams intentionally drove his car into
their preschool’s playground.
Wiener said the foundation will hopefully raise enough money to
support local preschools and day-care centers that cannot afford to
provide safety and security for the children.
In June, community volunteers had helped the foundation build a wall
behind Girls Inc. in Costa Mesa.
Wiener also said she hopes the bowlathon will become an annual
fund-raiser for Sierra’s Light Foundation.
“Next year, we want to double the money,” Wiener said.
