Tennis: Locals fare well at Junior Satellite Tournament
ANAHEIM - Several Newport Beach and Corona del Mar youngsters fared
well at the 5th annual Anaheim Tennis Center Junior Satellite Tournament,
held Oct. 14-22.
Unseeded Cassity Grandstaff of Newport Beach defeated the No. 4, No. 1
and No. 2 seeds in succession to win the Girls 12 division championship
against Jennifer Chow of Diamond Bar, 7-6 (9-7), 6-1.
Grandstaff also won the girls 12 championships at the 19th annual
Santa Ana Fall Junior Satellite Tournament earlier in October.
Corona del Mar’s Nicholas Gingold defeated Anoush Moin of Mission
Viejo, 6-3, 6-2, in the finals of the Boys 14’s to take the title.
Newport Harbor High’s Cheryl Dobson reached the finals in the Girls
16’s against Christina Lalonde of Orange, while Katie McKitterick of
Corona del Mar also reached the finals of the Girls 12’s against Justine
Vicaldo of Fullerton.
In Girls 14’s, Danielle Drucker of Newport, reached the semifinals
before falling to eventual champion Vicaldo.
