OCC women’s water polo: Pirates win two in Long Beach Tourney
LONG BEACH - The Orange Coast College women’s water polo team
shoots for another tournament crown today after earning two victories at
the Long Beach Tournament Friday.
The Pirates meet Merced at noon in the semifinals at Cal State Long
Beach. If OCC wins it will play in the championship at 5:10 p.m. most
likely against highly-touted Golden West.
The Pirates earned their semifinal bid with an 18-1 win over Cerritos
and a 7-6 decison over San Diego Mesa in the second round.
In the opener, OCC’s Heather Lemke, Kathy Klarich and Liz Zuliani
scored four goals each, while Katie Sackett and Jennifer Hallman went for
two apiece. OCC goalie Erica Anderson recorded five saves in the easy
victory.
In the second round, the Pirates (21-2-1) edged San Diego Mesa behind
Neisha Hoagland’s three goals. Devon Wright and Christine McDonald scored
two each. Pirates goalie Erin Kennedy finished with six saves.
