B.W. COOK -- The Crowd
The Daily Pilot “crowd cam” captures the local scene as citizens rally
for a variety of social, civic, cultural and scientific causes on the
coast.
1. Two local ladies, Michelle Rohe, left, and Mary Roosevelt, flank
Gary Babick, chairman of the Philharmonic Society Board, at a reception
honoring celebrated Russian pianist Evgeny Kissin at the Philharmonic
Society’s 47th annual season opening recently. More than 250 local guests
attended.
2. Christmas Company 2000 opened this week with great style at the
Orange County Fairgrounds. Activities will continue through the week.
Pictured from left are Chairwoman Kim Henderson; Kay Matherly, president
of the Junior League; and Melinda Pigors, Christmas Company
chairwoman-elect. Christmas Company, a Junior League project, raises
funds to reduce the risks of child abuse and teen pregnancy.
3. Opera Pacific recently honored Marybelle and Paul Musco for their
valiant support. The couple was photographed at Festa Italiana, a
preconcert dinner held in Laguna Beach and chaired by Joan Simonoff and
Meredith Gratz.
4. The Roundtable for Women in Foodservice raised $18,000 recently for
scholarships to benefit Orange Coast College culinary students. Pictured
from left are Becky Black, Jenny Rosoff, Kay Rosoff, Penny Poorman and
Jeanne Mosgrove, National Roundtable for Women in Foodservice president.
5. At the opening of The Bridge of Gardens at South Coast Plaza,
Elizabeth Segerstrom joins her husband, Henry Segerstrom, managing
partner of South Coast Plaza, and Jeremiah Sullivan, chairman and chief
executive of Macy’s West. The trio attended an elegant preview luncheon
hosted by Macy’s in the new Macy’s Home Store.
6. Penny Newman, designer salon manager at Nordstrom South Coast
Plaza, held a soiree in her store featuring the fall and winter ball
gowns for the social set, specifically with the upcoming Candlelight
Concert for the Orange County Performing Arts Center in mind. We’ll
feature the gowns from the show Oct. 27, in the Daily Pilot’s fashion
Friday section called “The Look.” For now, here’s the stylish Penny
Newman, left, with Newport’s best-dressed couple, Byron and Ronnie
Allumbaugh, and equally fashion-forward friend Sandi Simon.
