Jeff Deffenbaugh and Chris Drummy were two big winners last weekend,

as the Huntington Beach Pro/Am Surf Series 2000 season came to an end.

Drummy had the best four waves in a 30-minute final at the south side

of the Huntington Beach Pier on Sunday to win the Pro/Am Division event

and a $3,000 cash prize. He beat out Deffenbaugh, who finished second,

Asher Nolan (third) and C.T. Taylor (fourth) for first place.

Although Drummy won the final event, it was defending champion

Deffenbaugh who was able to hold on to first place overall in the Pro/Am

Division points standings. By doing so, Deffenbaugh won a round-trip

ticket to Indonesia and $1,500 in cash and prizes.

“I’ll be heading down to Indonesia in April or May with Chris Drummy

and some close friends,” said Deffenbaugh, when asked what he’d do with

his winnings. “Besides that, I’m saving up for Christmas presents for my

two kids, Justin and Madison.”

Other first-place winners in the final event included Bryce Dehaan

(Grom), Chase Newsom (Boys’), Jon Gorak (Juniors’), Jon Wildfong (Men’s),

Jason Haughey (Masters’), Liz Kampen (Women’s) and Mike Gillard

(Longboarding).

In addition to Deffenbaugh, six other athletes finished as overall

points winners in their respective divisions, and each won a trip to Cabo

San Lucas. Overall points winners included Colin Schildauer (Super Grom),

Brett Simpson (Boys’), Justin Brescia (Juniors’), Greg Eisele (Men’s),

Haughey (Masters’) and Kampen (Women’s).
