TONIGHT’S GAMES

FRIDAY’S GAMES

Huntington Beach vs. Fountain Valley ... FV by 6

(at Huntington Beach High, 7 p.m.)

Ocean View vs. Westminster ... OV by 7

(at Westminster High, 7 p.m.)

And here’s why ...

* Marina High (5-1, 0-1) tries to ease the pain of last week’s loss to

Los Alamitos against an Esperanza squad (5-1, 1-0) that has come on

strong the last few weeks. The Vikings were hurt by turnovers and a

dominant performance by Los Al, and they’ll be tested again by a

dangerous Aztec offensive attack led by Temitope Sonuyi. They’ll need to

slow him down if they hope to collect their first league victory.

Last year’s score: Esperanza 24, Marina 14 ...

* The Game of the Week features two highly explosive teams as Edison

(5-1, 1-0) faces Los Alamitos (6-0, 1-0). The key to Edison’s success

will be its ability to eliminate turnovers, a facet of the game exploited

by the Griffins. The Chargers have been prone to fumbling the ball, but

can’t afford to cough it up tonight. Los Al played to near perfection

last week against Marina and will need a similar effort to get past

Edison. This one should be a barnburner.

Last year’s score: Los Alamitos, 44, Edison 36 ...

* Two teams looking for answers meet Friday when Huntington Beach

(2-4, 0-1) and Fountain Valley (3-3, 0-1) tangle at Sheue Field. The

Oilers’ rushing game will present problems for a defensive unit that has

struggled with injuries and inconsistency. If the Barons can shut down

Huntington’s ground game, they could win this one.

Last year’s score: Fountain Valley, 21, Huntington Beach 6 ...

* After last week’s debacle at Tustin, Ocean View (4-2, 0-1) attempts

to regroup against Westminster (1-4-1, 1-0) in a Golden West League

encounter Friday. The balanced Seahawks should be too much for the Lions.

Expect OV’s potent passing game to exploit a suspect Westminster

secondary.

Last year’s score: Westminster 44, Ocean View 36 ...
