CITY COUNCIL WRAP-UP

FOUNTAIN VALLEY

WHAT HAPPENED: The City Council agreed to hold a public hearing at

7 p.m. Nov. 7 for Compass Telecom Services to address the company’s

request to change a city code that covers the installation and operation

of wireless telecommunications antennas.

WHAT IT MEANS: If the proposed code change is approved, it will

permit the construction of a wireless communication antenna on a building

at 17150 Euclid St.

Vote: 5-0

The next City Council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 7 in the

council chambers of City Hall, 10200 Slater Ave.

HUNTINGTON BEACH

WHAT HAPPENED:

The City Council narrowly approved an ordinance that updates

regulations covering sex-oriented businesses within the community.

Council members Dave Sullivan, Shirley Dettloff and Pam Julien dissented.

WHAT IT MEANS:

Adult businesses featuring live entertainment, such as nude dancing,

are required to keep a 6-foot buffer between patrons and entertainers,

and nude performers are confined to stage dancing only. The ordinance

also expands the hours of operation to allow a closing time of 2 a.m.

instead of 11 p.m. Police had said the earlier closing time would allow

better enforcement of the 6-foot buffer regulation.

WHAT HAPPENED:

The council approved an underground utility district along Beach

Boulevard, between Yorktown Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway.

WHAT IT MEANS:

Utilities such as cable, telephone and electricity services that run

along Beach Boulevard through overhead wires suspended by poles and

eventually hook up to homes will be buried to enhance the look of the

street and prevent automotive accidents with poles. The Southern

California Edison Co. has allocated about $644,000 annually for such

projects with in the city.

The next City Council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 6 in the

council chambers at City Hall, 2000 Main St. A study session will precede

the meeting at 5 p.m in Room B-8.
