Pop Warner: Mighty Mite Mustangs edge La Habra
COSTA MESA - The Costa Mesa Pop Warner Mighty Mite Mustangs were
16-6 winners over the La Habra Lions on Saturday.
Jesse Dawson scored two touchdowns for the Mustangs. One came on a
45-yard TD run, followed by a 30-yard scoring run in the second quarter.
Bobby Lenke had two extra points to cap the scoring.
Mark Contreras rushed for 42 yards
On defense, great Mustangs’ tackles came from Daniel Lindquist, Matt
Viles, Keanu Azuega and Nick Desiderio, while Coleman Brown came up with
a costly turnover.
The Mustangs also played at halftime of the Costa Mesa High football
game with Corona del Mar on Friday night and received a loud ovation from
the fans.
In other Pop Warner Football action:
Junior Pee Wee Mustangs 30, Huntington Beach 0 - Cody Matthews scored
two touchdowns, one on an interception and the other on a punt return to
spark the Mustangs over Huntington Beach.
Frank DeNoewer, Bradley Hemenover and Antwon Byrd also scored for the
Mustangs, while Cody Fairfield, Garrick Williams, Josh Erno and Andrew
Millian each carried the ball for over 40 yards.
On defense, Drew Bauer, Westin Ross, Ian Abernathy, Andy Gonzales,
Josh Sayler, Jake Lembek, Fairfield, Williams, Erno and Byre helped keep
Huntington Beach out of the end zone the entire game.
