TODAY

Ballet Pacifica will perform at 8 p.m. today and at 2:30 and 8 p.m.

Saturday at the Irvine Barclay Theatre, 4242 Campus Drive, Irvine.

Choreographer Peter Pucci and local visual artist Tony DeLap have created

a new work for the Ballet Pacifica, accompanied by a live string quartet.

$20-$24.

The West Coast premiere of “Symphony No. 5” by Philip Glass, conducted

by Pacific Symphony music director Carl St. Clair, will be held at 8 p.m.

at the Orange County Performing Arts Center, 600 Town Center Drive, Costa

Mesa. $15-$55.

SATURDAY

The Shaolin Warriors, monks ranging from 5 to 55 from the Shaolin

Buddhist monastery, will perform an ancient form of kung fu at 8 p.m. at

the Orange County Performing Arts Center, 600 Town Center Drive. Sold

out.

SUNDAY

The Iceland Symphony will perform music by Scandinavian and Russian

composers in celebration of the 1,000th anniversary of the Vikings’

discovery of America at 3 p.m. at the Orange County Performing Arts

Center, 600 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa. $15-$55.

TUESDAY

An “Insights” lecture with Nicholas McGegan, conductor of the

Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, will begin at 7 p.m. at the Irvine

Barclay Theatre, 4242 Campus Drive, Irvine. Free with Philharmonia

Baroque Orchestra concert ticket.

The Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra will perform “English Baroque

Treasures,” including the music of Purcell, Handel and others, on period

instruments at 8 p.m. at the Irvine Barclay Theatre, 4242 Campus Drive,

Irvine. $29-$34.

THURSDAY

Mike Bates will give a lecture and demonstration about the Disklavier

and the future of piano technology at 7 p.m. at Founders Hall, Orange

County Performing Arts Center, 600 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa. Free

with an Ursula Oppens concert ticket.

The West Coast premiere of a new work by Richard Teitelbaum,

co-commissioned by the Philharmonic Society of Orange County for Eclectic

Orange, will begin at 8 p.m. at Founders Hall,Orange County Performing

Arts Center, 600 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa. Called the Ursula Oppens

“Keyboard Eclectic,” the show will feature avant-garde virtuoso Oppens

and piano favorites by Debussy, Ravel and others. $23.

OCT. 21

The NDR Symphony Orchestra Hamburg will perform at 8 p.m. at the

Orange County Performing Arts Center, 600 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa.

Christoph Eschenbach will conduct Mozart’s “Sinfonia Concertante” and

Mahler’s “Symphony No. 1.” $15-$55.

OCT. 22

A BBC Bach Documentary will screen at 2 and 3:30 p.m. at the Orange

County Museum of Art Auditorium, 850 San Clemente Drive, Newport Beach.

Kenneth Branagh narrates the documentary, featuring excerpts from

“B-minor Mass” and “Goldberg Variations.” Free with reservations. (949)

Bach’s “Magnificat,” a performance by the John Alexander Singers and

Musica Angelica, will begin at 7 p.m. at the Orange County Performing

Tenor Ian Bostridge will perform with pianist Julius Drake at 8 p.m.

in Founders Hall, Orange County Performing Arts Center, 600 Town Center

Drive, Costa Mesa. $40.

OCT. 27

At 8 p.m., Ballet Argentino will perform works by Latin American

choreographers, plus a new work set to music by tango master Astor

Piazzola, at the Orange County Performing Arts Center, 600 Town Center

Drive, Costa Mesa. There will also be performances at 2 and 8 p.m. Oct.

28 and 2 p.m. Oct. 29. $12-$68.

OCT. 29

A Bach B-minor mass will be held at 4 p.m. at St. Andrew’s

Presbyterian Church, 600 St. Andrews Road, Newport Beach. The William

Hall Master Chorale will perform the work on the occasion of the 250th

anniversary of Bach’s death. $15-$40.

NOV. 7

Carl St. Clair will conduct the Opera Pacific in a colorful production

of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” at 7:30 p.m. at the Orange County

Performing Arts Center, 600 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa. Performance

times are 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9-11 and 2 p.m. Nov. 12. $32-$107.

NOV. 9

The Borromeo String Quartet will perform at 8 p.m. at the Orange

“Failing Kansas,” a cine-opera by Mikel Rouse, will be show at 8 p.m.
