Pee Wee Dolphins sharp in 41-0 triumph
The Huntington Beach Pee Wee Dolphins showed their dominant side
last Saturday, pairing a high octane offense with a hard-to-penetrate
defense to produce a 41-0 victory over the Tri Cities Steelers in Junior
All-American Football action.
The Dolphins, who evened their record at 2-2-1, racked up 321 yards of
offense and held the Steelers (2-3) to less than 50 total yards.
“I thought that the coaches worked hard this week, and that the kids
played well today,” Pee Wee Dolphins Coach Dave Small said. “The
offensive line did a great job, and we had some younger players step it
up, too, especially Ben Atencio and Tommy Nadowski. Brian Dies also had a
good game on the defensive side of the ball.”
In the first quarter, Logan Martina broke off tackle and raced 46
yards to pay dirt for a 6-0 lead. The lead grew to 12-0 on Ceseare
Nieto’s 12 yard touchdown run, his first of two on the day, and was 20-0
at the half, thanks to Hue Lam’s first touchdown of the season, a five
yard plunge.
In the second half, the Dolphins defense continued to dominate. Strong
play by linebacker Jacob Lamb, and broken up passes by linebackers Brian
Shrock and Fiscus, kept the Steelers from mounting any serious scoring
threats.
Linebacker Trevor Engel had a big game with two interceptions, each
setting up scores by Nieto and Martina.
Shrock also hit Fiscus with a 63 yard bomb to complete the 41-0 win.
Martina finished the day with 142 yards on 11 carries and Lam picked
up 78 yards on 12 tries, to lead the Dolphins.
“We are in a very tough and competitive league,” Small added. “If we
coaches continue to work hard, and the players keep putting in their best
effort, this will be a successful year.”
The Huntington Beach Dolphins return home Saturday to host the Garden
Grove Panthers. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Ocean View High.
