The Huntington Beach Pro/Am Surf Series will hold its final event

of the year this weekend at the south side of the Huntington Beach Pier.

The event is double rated and features a $3,000 first place prize to

the Pro/Am Division winner.

For just two hours of actual surf time, the winner will make $1,500 an

hour, making the total the largest Pro/Am purse in the surf series’

history.

Current Pro/Am points leaders Jeff Deffenbaugh (Huntington Beach) and

Richie Collins (Newport Beach) are two front-runners battling it out for

the first place title.

All surfers in the division will be competing for the first place

overall points, as well as round trip tickets to Indonesia (Pro/Am

Division winner) and Cabo San Lucas (all amateur divisions), and several

other prizes.

The Pro/Am format event will feature some of the world’s top

professional surfers and local Southern California amateurs. Top

contenders at the southside of the pier will be the Deffenbaugh Brothers,

Jeff and Barry, Timmy Reyes, Chris Ward, Richie Collins, Seth Elmer, Dino

Andino, Brad Gerlach, Jay Larson, to name a few.

Amateur surfers compete Saturday in seven different divisions: Super

Groms (11 and under), Boys (12-14), Juniors (15-17), Mens (18-28),

Masters (29 and up), Longboard (open), and Womens (open). Pro/Am surfers

will compete Sunday.

The starting time both days is 7 a.m., and competition should wrap up

about 4:30 p.m.
