AYSO Region 97: Blue Devils edge Argonauts
NEWPORT BEACH - Preston Devey tapped in the game-winning goal off a
pass from R.J. D’Cruz to lead the Blue Devils to a 2-1 win over the
Argonauts in AYSO Region 97 Division 4 action Saturday.
Jonathan Gordon scored the Blue Devils’ first goal off a pass from
Flavio Cuevas before the Argonauts tied the score off a shot from John
Manchester.
Fullbacks Johnny Savoji, Adam Knott and Grant Jackson, along with
stopper Taylor Friend helped keep the Argonauts off the scoreboard the
rest of the way.
Devils’ goalkeepers Ian Fowler and Taylor Stevenson each stopped
numerous shots, while Johnathan Sutterfield, Brandon Woods and Jordan
Hovis each played a solid all-around game.
In girls under 10 action:
Pythons 3, Sisters 3 - The Sisters took a 2-0 lead before the Pythons
tied the game on two goals from Lauren Draganza.
After falling behind again, the Pythons got even, thanks to a goal
from Gillian Hogan.
Claire Layton played a solid second half in goal for the Pythons,
while Shelby Searles led the way in the first half.
Calyn Walton also had a solid effort for the Pythons.
In boys under 7 action:
In the Pirates’ game against the Red Torpedos, Kellon Truxton, Kelly
Blake and David Vorona each scored goals, while solid passing and
dribbling came form C.J. Tona, Bradley Courier and Adam Yeomans.
The Pirates’ defense was led by Skylar Jacobs and Mario Rosales, while
goalkeepers Austin Smith and Sammy Peters each played well.
In girls under 6 action:
For the Shooting Stars, Kristen Rohan scored three goals, while
Caitlin Cohn and Alexandra Chandler added single goals in their game
against the Little Red Bombers.
Jamie Darling and Rachel Vensand each had assists for the Shooting
Stars, while the defense was anchored by Maddie Collins, Rachel Worr and
Hanna Van Voorhis.
The Red Bombers were led by Jenna Frum, who scored a goal, along with
Annie Alvarado, Sara Machoskie and Sierra Krenick.
For the White Tigers in their game with the Blue Angels, goals were
scored by Sadye Busby and Morgan Williams, while Lauren Conway sparked
the offense with nice passing.
