The Corona del Mar High girls tennis team, fresh off its 15-3

Pacific Coast League win over Estancia last Thursday, will have its hands

full today when league nemesis University comes to the CdM campus for a

3:15 showdown.

The Sea Kings (8-1), ranked No. 3 in CIF Southern Section Division II,

won all 54 singles’ games played against the Eagles, thanks to the strong

play of Anne Yelsey, Brittany Minna and Laura Claster, all 6-0, 6-0, 6-0,

winners.

The Trojans are ranked No. 8 in Division II and gave the Sea Kings

their biggest test last year before falling in a 10-8 decision.

Elsewhere today:

Estancia’s girls tennis team will play at Northwood, while Costa Mesa

hosts Laguna Beach. Both are PCL matchups and begin at 3:15.

In girls volleyball action, Newport Harbor, ranked No. 3 in Division

I-A, will play at Woodbridge at 6:30, while Corona del Mar, second-ranked

in Division III-AA, hosts Estancia at 6.

Costa Mesa and Northwood hook up at the Mustangs’ gym for a 3:15 p.m.

Newport Harbor’s field hockey team (13-1-1) will play at Huntington

Beach today at 3:15. The Sailors have outscored their opponents, 36-2,

this season.

In girls golf action, Newport Harbor will take on Aliso Niguel at Big

Canyon Country Club, while University takes on Estancia. Both matches

start at 2:30 p.m.

Corona del Mar and Costa Mesa hook up at the Costa Mesa Golf & Country

Club’s Mesa Linda Course for a 2:15 PCL showdown.

In collegiate action, the Orange Coast College men’s and women’s

soccer teams will take on arch rival Golden West.

The men’s team (7-2-4, 3-1-1 in the Orange Empire Conference) host the

Rustlers at 4 p.m., while the women’s squad (8-5-1, 3-2-0) plays at GWC

at 3 p.m.

For Vanguard University, the men’s soccer team plays at Point Loma

University at 3 p.m., while the women’s volleyball team hosts Christian

Heritage at 7 p.m.
