NEWPORT BEACH -- A 39-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping from
the seventh floor of Hoag Hospital on Friday afternoon, police said.
Hospital authorities said the woman was a patient. After she jumped at
about 12:45 p.m., she was treated in the hospital’s emergency care unit
but succumbed to her injuries at 1:09 p.m., officials said.
Police said the woman opened a window and stepped onto the ledge. A
nurse tried to talk her down, but her efforts failed, said Lt. Andy Gonis
of the Newport Beach Police Department, adding that the woman landed in
an area of the hospital that was not visible to the public.
No further information was available Friday.
