1. Getting cash for college. Send your high school senior to the
college of his or her choice and don’t pay the price. Parents of high
school seniors are invited to attend the last in the series of free
college funding workshops at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Orange Coast College,
2701 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa. Roger Edmonds, a 30-year certified
financial planner, will speak at the event. A $1,000 college scholarship

2. It’s a pugs world after all. Pugtoberfest 2000 -- a festival for
pugs, pals and people -- will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at TeWinkle
Park, 970 Arlington Drive, Costa Mesa. $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and

3. Public safety in action. Watch firefighters drench flames and
police helicopters fly overhead at the Newport Beach Fire and Police
departments’ open house, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Newport
Center Fire Station and Police Headquarters, 868 Santa Barbara Drive. The
Newport Beach Lifeguards, Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol and other
emergency services also will present displays. Live police and fire
