NMJAAF: Midget Seahawks zap the Chargers
The Newport-Mesa Junior All-American Football Midget Seahawks (ages
12-14) defeated the Irvine Chargers, 28-6.
Spencer Link raced the opening kickoff back for a touchdown and
following the successful two-point conversion, led, 8-0.
The defensive line, led by Zack Wisengrad, Chris Taylor, Chris Reilly,
Matt Graham, Armand Lapuz, Avery Fenton, Robert Richie, Tim Prairie and
Tim Bassler controlled the line of scrimmage, allowing linebackers Chris
Hernandez, Link, Wes Presson, Kyle Woody and Efrain Castro to make the
tackles.
The Seahawks’ secondary of Greg Minor, Austin Brawner, Grant Casserly
and Taylor Young helped keep the Chargers off the scoreboard until the
final play of the game.
Link had his second touchdown on an interception return and had a
third score in the third quarter to give Newport-Mesa a 22-0 lead.
Wes Presson picked off a Chargers’ pass and later scored on a long
touchdown run.
In other NMJAAF action:
Junior Midget Seahawks 21, La Mirada 0 - The 11-13 year-old Seahawks
recorded their third shutout of the season Saturday night.
The defense was led by Trevor Theriot, Patrick Williams, Shaun Mohler,
Ryan Lance, James Coder, Arin Lapuz, Delano McKenzie, Anthony Santos,
Nate Packer and Ryan Breslin.
On offense, the line, led by Brett Vosseller, Brent Odgen, Cheyne
Smith, Eric Ray, Sean Goodman and Pat Hill, helped the Seahawks gain over
300 yards in total offense.
Quarterback Casey Peters connected with Matt Silva for a touchdown,
while Mohler and Marc Quarles each rushed for a touchdown.
Matt Erickson had three punt returns for 100 yards, recovered a fumble
and was named Player of the Game.
David Del Fante kicked all three extra points to help seal the win.
Pee Wee Seahawks 18, Huntington Beach Dolphins 0 - Quarterback Matt
Hauser and tight end Matt Raiger were enough to lead the Seahawks (ages
10-12).
Hauser hit Raiger for a 55-yard TD strike, then found Raiger again for
a 50-yard connection, which led to another score.
Jake Lemmerman caught a 15-yard pass from Hauser and running back
Michael Orozco powered through the Dolphins.
The offensive line was led by Lou Truxton, Charles Vickery III, Bryce
Jardine, David Root and Richie Sorensen, while Ryan Telles, Ryan Dalton,
Michael Aspegren, Brett Crowley, Sorenson, Zach Sepulveda and Matt
Lutton anchored the Seahawks’ defense.
Clinic Seahawks 18, Tri-City Steelers 7 - The Seahawks (ages 8-10)
remained undefeated with a win on Saturday.
Travis Sorensen scored on a 40-yard touchdown run, before quarterback
Jordan Lush connected with receiver Andy Hayes for a 75-yard score.
Scott Chene closed out the Seahawks’ attack with a late fourth-quarter
touchdown.
Defensively, the Seahawks held the Steelers to under 20 yards rushing.
Kyle Gladding, Jeff Acheris, Matt Morris, Grant Johnson and Kyle Chene
played well on the line, while Kevin Rask, Bucko Theriot, Chase Lanting
and Nick Mulher played strong in the secondary.
For the Junior Clinic Seahawks (ages 7-8), Michael Taormina and Nick
Taormina each played solid on both sides of the ball.
Parker Norton and Nick Taormina each scored touchdowns, while on
defense, Brett Klein recovered a fumble.
