Field hockey: Sailors rule Orange County Invitational
HUNTINGTON BEACH - The Newport Harbor High field hockey team won
three games in a row Saturday to claim the Orange County Invitational at
Marina High.
In their first contest, the Sailors knocked off Bonita, 3-0, with
goals by Kaley Nix, Elizabeth Evans and Brianne Parmeter and a strong
overall play from the rest of the team.
Game 2 saw Newport win, 1-0, on stroke play, over Edison. Shirin
Oskooi scored in the fifth and final round of stroke play to pull out the
win.
In the finals, Newport topped host Marina, 1-0, on a goal from Allison
McKenzie with just under two minutes remaining in regulation.
Senior Michelle Collier was named to the All-Tournament team for the
Sailors (12-0-1, 7-0 in league).
The Sailors’ JV team won all five games in the tournament to win their
division.
Newport will host Marina on Tuesday at Harper Community Center, before
hosting British Columbia’s Rossland High (Canada) on Wednesday. Both
contests are set for 3:15 p.m.
