The Newport Harbor High girls volleyball team, ranked No. 3 in CIF
Southern Section Division I-A, will open its Sea View League play today
at second-seeded Irvine today at 5 p.m.
The Sailors (5-3) are coming into tonight’s match on a rare two-match
losing streak, dropping back-to-back contests at Mater Dei (15-6, 15-2,
16-14) and at home against Huntington Beach (16-14, 15-12, 12-15, 15-5) last week.
On a positive note, Coach Dan Glenn believes that junior outside
hitter Christine Woller will return after missing three matches with a
sprained ankle.
The last time the two schools played in the Vaqueros’ gym, Newport
pulled off its biggest rally in recent memory. Trailing 2-1 in games and
14-3 in Game 4, Newport rallied to stun the Vaqueros, 15-4, 11-15, 13-15,
17-15, 15-8, on its way to a second straight CIF Southern Section and
Division I state title.
