The Newport Harbor High girls golf team earned its second Sea View
League victory of the season with a 136-153 win over Laguna Hills at Big
Canyon Country Club, Thursday.
The Sailors’ Lindsay Galbraith was the medalist, shooting a 44 on the
par-36 course. Harbor’s Kelly Hunt shot a 45 and teammate Amanda Campbell
carded a 47.
“We’ve been playing pretty well lately,” Harbor Coach Jim Warren said.
“We’re just putting all our efforts into winning league.”
Warren also said the team is preparing for a Northern California trip
in two weeks, where they will play in San Jose in a 12-team tournament;
then against Stevenson High School at Spyglass Golf Course; and wrap it
up with a match against St. Francis High School, last year’s Nor-Cal
champions.
“The kids are really looking forward to this trip,” Warren said.
“Getting to play at Spyglass is really special for them.”
Estancia 135, Laguna Beach 135
The Estancia High girls golf team defeated Laguna Beach with a
four-player score on a par-32 at Aliso Creek golf course in Laguna Beach,
Thursday.
Christina Francis of Laguna Beach shot a 38 good for the medalist
title. But it was Estancia’s No. 4 Jenny Patton who beat out the Artists’
Monique Walker, 51-60, who was the tie-breaking edge for Estancia after
the three-player format ended, 135-135.
The Eagles’ Anh Do led her team with a 40. April Duch followed with a
44. And Trang Do shot a 51.
“We’re an inexperienced team that is getting better,” Estancia coach
Art Perry said of the close win.
