NEWPORT BEACH - Two down, one more to go.
Vanessa Dunlap of Newport Beach knocked off her second ranked opponent
in as many days with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory over No. 5 seed Juliette
Mutzke Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the girls 14 singles at the
Junior Tennis Classic 2000 Tournament at Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club.
To get to Friday’s finals, she has to knock off yet another ranked
opponent, No. 3 seed Amy Beck, today. Dunlap beat No. 2 seed Carolina
Velasco in the round of 32 Tuesday.
Mutzke of Newport Coast easily won the first set, 6-1, before Dunlap pulled out a close battle in the second set. After a lengthy break, she
took advantage of several unforced errors to win the match.
