Surf City’s first all-nude, no-alcohol club on Beach Boulevard plans
to open its door to patrons Friday, said Randy Garrou, an attorney
representing the club, named Flamingo Adult Theater.
Last week, Talbert and Beach Inc., the club’s owners, cleared final
inspections to operate the business, said Ross Cranmer, the city’s
director of building and safety.
But the business is still waiting for several dancers to get city
permits to allow them to perform at a sex-oriented business, Garrou
said. One dancer has so far received a permit.
Since June, the club has been trying to open for business at 18121
Beach Blvd. The club will be the first business in Huntington Beach to
provide live nude entertainment. Patrons must be at least 18 years to
visit.
Last week, the City Council voted 7 to 0 to approve the first reading
of an ordinance prohibiting nudity in all public places, including bars
and restaurants.
“It is extremely unfortunate, and I wish we had a way to stop it,”
Councilman Dave Sullivan said. “I hope we will pass the final reading
that will ban bar nudity.”
The council is expected to take a final vote on the ordinance Aug. 7.
