A tough best-of-three District 62 Junior Division All-Star
Tournament wrapped up Tuesday night, with Robinwood taking the crown from
Fountain Valley by virtue of a 7-3 victory at Robinwood.
Robinwood won the final two games of the series, winning 8-4 Monday,
four days after having suffered a 4-0 defeat at Fountain Valley.
Adam Dedeaux notched the pitching win, going 5 1/2 innings, before
Steve Willson closed the game.
Robinwood currently is representing District 62 in the Sectional
Tournament, which is being played at Behringer Park in La Mirada.
Robinwood, trying to stay alive in the tournament, blasted Plaza Little
League (Lakewood), 16-6, in five inning Mercy Rule contest Saturday, then
dropped a 6-5 decision to host La Mirada on Sunday.
Against Plaza, Danny Falkenstein struck the first blow by hitting a
second inning home run, Steven Becker all but sealed the game with a
fourth inning grand slam, and Eric Oviatt punctuated the romp with a
line-drive home run to center field. Eric Alcala got the pitching win,
with back up help from Willson.
Robinwood held a 5-3 lead heading into the sixth inning against a
tough La Mirada team, but a three-run home run put the host team on top,
6-5. Robinwood loaded the bases with two out in the seventh inning, but
Falkenstien was called out on a close play at first base to end the game.
Earlier in the game, Tommy Ursano hit the second grand slam of the
tournament for Robinwood, and Becker scored on a passed ball, to account
for Robinwood’s five runs.
The Robinwood Junior Division All-Star team also is comprised of Dylan
Brock, Nick Cardona, Andy Coburn, Brian Ellis, Shawn Parro, Ryan
Phillips, Aric Wienberg, Manager David Brock, and coaches Ken Oviatt and
Dan Cardona.
