Corona del Mar High alumna Keri Phebus is named the Tennis
Magazine/Rolex College Player of the Year. Phebus, a junior at UCLA,
becomes the second women’s tennis player to win both the singles and
doubles national championship.
Newport Harbor High’s 17 and under boys water polo team finishes in
seventh place at the Southern Pacific Association USA water polo
tournament after a tough 10-9 overtime loss to San Clemente. Mike Kelley
scores a goal for Newport at the buzzer to send the game into sudden
death. Mike Peetz and Chris Richardson each rack up three goals for
Newport.
Costa Mesa resident Todd Miler advances to the third round of the Op
Pro Surfing Championships after an 8.0 score in the second round.

Amy Frazier wins four singles sets as her Newport Beach Dons win four
Team Tennis matches in a week. The Dons beat the Miami Beach Breakers,
27-22 in overtime, the San Antonio Racquets, 25-22, the Wellington Aces,
26-19, and the Raleigh Edge Breakers, 28-22.
Kenyan William Musyaki wins the men’s division in the Bastille Day 8K
Run at Newport Beach in 23.29.
