two different types of victories.

The game was scoreless through the first two innings before Ocean View

erupted for six runs in the top of the third.

lined an RBI single off the leg of Huntington Valley pitcher Michael

Hensley. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Chris Palmer (three

hits/six RBI/two runs) belted a grand slam for a 5-0 lead, and Trey

Valbuena (two hits) closed the inning with a solo home run.

Palmer also had a two-RBI double in the fourth inning, and Greg

Gonzalez hit a two-run home run in the fifth for a 10-2 Ocean View lead.

All three home runs were hit to left field for Ocean View, which

racked up 14 hits.

“The kids played a good game, and we hit the ball really well,” Ocean

View Manager Yun Conger said.”

Palmer also notched the pitching win, striking out 11 to go along with

one hit in four innings of work. Dallas Walters and Valbuena also saw

pitching action, and the Ocean View staff finished with a combined 16

strikeouts.

of its runs on passedballs.

Scott Schauer hit a solo home run to left field in the first inning to

give Robinwood an early 1-0 lead in a tense ballgame. Fountain Valley

tied the score in the top of the second when Jeff Spirk scored on a wild

pitch, and the score stood deadlocked until the fifth, when Robinwood’s

Casey Becker doubled with two out and scored on a Todd Locken triple.

Schauer collected two hits, turned a double play in the fifth inning

to end a Fountain Valley scoring threat, and also struck out the game’s

final two batters after Fountain Valley had put runners in scoring

position in the sixth inning, to get the save.

The victory went to Becker, who gave up four hits and struck out five

in 5 1/3 innings pitched.

Duran all had singles for Fountain Valley.

Huntington Valley 10, Seaview 7 (9 innings)

inning Tuesday night to give host Huntington Valley the lead for good in

a wild elimination contest in which neither team would quit.

“I’m proud of these guys and it was an honor to coach them,” Seaview

Manager George Golden said. “I just wish we could take an inning or two

back.”

Seaview had built a 5-2 lead behind two-RBI singles by Nick McEachin

and John Ward, and a Michael Sheedy home run.

Huntington Valley opened up a 2-0 lead on Shawn Eley’s two-RBI double

off the center field fence, and rallied to tie the game at 5-5 on a

Seaview throwing error, Aumiller’s RBI single, and Michael Hensley’s

score on a tag up, the latter of which happened with two out in the sixth

inning.

Huntington Valley grabbed its first lead (6-5) on Frankie Mead’s RBI

single in the seventh inning, but Tyson Laggenbauer provided some late

heroics for Seaview when he took a 1-1 pitch for a home run over the

center field fence with two out, tying the score at 6-6. Hensley put

Huntington Valley back on top, 7-6, when he scored on another Seaview

throwing error in the eighth, but Seaview gained one final tie when Ward,

who singled, scored on a Huntington Valley throwing error.

Costa Mesa American 6, Seaview 3

Brandon Hoffman’s grand slam home run in the first inning lifted Costa

Mesa American to the league’s first tournament win since the 1996 season.

For Seaview, Cory Kindness hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning,

and center fielder Michael Sheedy made an outstanding defensive play in

the first inning when he went over the fence for a catch, taking away a

potential home run from CMA’s Matt Doran.
