Revised Greenlight study to be released

NEWPORT BEACH -- The city will release its revised analysis of the

Greenlight measure today and officials say the changes were not extensive

dramatic.

“It’s just going to adjust the numbers a little bit,” said City

Manager Homer Bludau. “Really, the only change is [the analyst] estimated

there would be 18 citywide votes and maybe it’s now down to 15.”

The Greenlight initiative, which will appear on the November ballot,

proposes to let voters have the final say on certain “major”

developments.

Two weeks ago, independent analyst John Douglas completed a breakdown

of the initiative. The City Council paid him $11,500 to study the measure

because of its potentially dramatic effects on Newport’s future growth.

Douglas looked at the more technical aspects of the measure and attempted

to determine which proposals would potentially trigger citywide votes.

However, after seeing the results of the original study, Allan Beek --

Greenlight proponent and the only other person to study the effects of

the initiative -- pointed out there were some errors in the study.

Beek has yet to see the revised study.
