Wilson to play in Triple-A All-Star Game

Former Marina High baseball standout Craig Wilson, now a

catcher/first baseman with the Nashville Sounds, will be his team’s sole

representative in the 2000 Triple-A All-Star Game scheduled for July 11

at Rochester, N.Y.

An All-CIF performer at Marina who resides in Huntington Beach during

the off-season, Wilson was named Wednesday as one of the 28 Pacific Coast

League players selected to the game.

Wilson is listed on the All-Star roster as a catcher, although he has

split his starts with the Sounds between first base (18 games) and behind

the plate (23). In addition, he has served as his team’s designated

hitter on four occasions, and has pinch hit in 13 contests.

The 23-year-old, 6-foot-2, 217 Wilson, who right-handed hitter who was

born in Fountain Valley, currently leads the Sounds in a number of

offensive categories: batting average (.322), runs scored (tied at 36),

home runs (15), RBI (44), on base percentage (.398), and slugging

percentage (.678).

Wilson’s slugging percentage is also second in the Pacific Coast

League.

In addition, he also tied a Sounds franchise record on June 6 with he

hit three home runs in one game against Tucson.

Originally selected by Toronto in the second round of the 1995 June

free agent draft, Wilson was acquired by Nashville from Toronto in

December of 1996.
