HUNTINGTON BEACH - Before bowing out of the District 62 Tournament
of champions Saturday, the Costa Mesa American Little League Major
Division Tigers defeated the Fountain Valley Marlins, 10-3, June 21 at the Ocean View Little League Park.
The Tiger trio of Jamie Tinnion, Andrew Sanford and R.J. Duernberger
combined for five hits, six RBIs and five runs to lead the club to the
Area 1 quarterfinals.
“We came out a little nervous, but we battled through it,” Tigers’
Manager Cliff Duernberger said. “Once we settled down, we played very
well.”
Sanford got the offense going with a solo home run in the fourth inning,
his 17th of the season.
In the Tigers’ five-run fifth, Duernberger smacked a two-run single,
before Tinnion later added a two-run home run, his 10th of the year.
Duernberger was also effective on the mound, throwing a complete-game
four-hitter with no earned runs and seven strikeouts.
