Vanguard falls, 6-3

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Auburn University of Montgomery, the No. 2 seed in

the NAIA men’s tennis championships, posted a 6-3 victory over Vanguard

University Thursday to eliminate the Lions.

Vanguard’s No. 1-doubles team of Stefan Johansson and Olli Helminen

surprised Auburn-Montgomery’s Gonzalo Rio and Nick Sabbatini, 8-6, but

Rio posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Vanguard’s Stefan Johannson in the

top-seeded singles duel to spur the Senators to the finals.

Auburn Montgomery, 20-3, finished with four singles victories and a pair

of doubles wins. Vanguard ends the season 22-4.

Auburn-Montgomery vies with Oklahoma City in today’s championship final.
