Bell assumes head coaching job for Edison girls hoops

Geoff Bell, an assistant to Dave White in the Edison High girls
basketball program, has been selected to succeed White as the Chargers
head coach, the school announced earlier this week.
White stepped down following the 1999-2000 season to spend more time with
his family and concentrate on his head coaching duties with the school’s
football program, where he will begin his 15th season at the helm next
fall.
“Geoff’s been with me for quite a while, and I think he’s the obvious
choice, and the best one, at that,” White said of Bell. “Basically, we
served as co-head coaches this past year, so this should be an easy
transition for him. He knows the game and has the prefect blend of
pushing the girls to be their best and earning their respect. He’s
respected and liked by the players.”
Bell inherits an Edison program that has won consecutive Sunset League
championships.
There was another coaching announcement from the Edison campus this week
when Estancia High’s Rick Boyce was hired as the new head coach of the
Charger varsity boys basketball team, replacing Cory Kelly, who coached
Edison the previous four years.
Boyce compiled a 64-45 record in four years at Estancia.
